The legendary MR series 1-bit recorder, now in a 1U rack-mountable model

The MR-1000 debuted as the ultimate portable capture, archive, and final mastering solution for music production. Now, its unprecedented audio quality is supplemented by additional functionality in the MR-2000S, creating the ideal 1-bit master recorder for studio use. The LED level meters provide excellent visibility and response speed, ensuring accurate monitoring. As a compact way to capture and carry away the sound that you were hearing in the mixing environment, the MR-2000S fulfills the professional ideal of a truly future-proof studio master recorder.

High-quality sound with 1-Bit 5.6 MHz recording

The MR-2000S supports 1-bit recording including the DSDIFF format used in SACD production. In addition to 1-Bit 2.8224 MHz, it can also record and play the even higher-quality 1-bit 5.6448 MHz format. With ultra-high quality sound that exceeds DVD audio, a staggeringly wide frequency response, and the ability to reproduce impulse responses and spacial imaging as never before, the MR-2000S introduces a new era in recording quality. Spatial character, presence, realism, the subtle resonances of each instrument --- all are captured with precise fidelity and reference to the original source. 16-bit and 24-bit PCM formats in sampling frequencies from 44.1 kHz through 192 kHz are also supported.

Internal 80 GB HDD allows extended recording

The internal 80 GB hard disk allows approximately 14.5 hours of recording at the highest quality (1-bit 5.6448 MHz stereo) or approximately 120 hours of CD-quality (16-bit 44.1 kHz stereo). You can connect the MR-2000S via its USB 2.0 compatible USB connector to your PC, and transfer the recorded data at high speed. The MR-2000S can also be used as a FAT32 USB external drive to carry source material and other files when needed.
* The maximum continuous recording time is six hours.

Projects are even easier to manage; up to 160,000 projects can be created internally

When you record on the MR series, two types of file are created; an audio file and a project file (which contains protect settings and mark data). These two files are collectively called a "project," and can be handled on the MR series as a single audio file. The MR-2000S lets you enter date information, and a date folder is created automatically for each day that you record. Each time you record, a project will be created in this folder. For each format, the MR-2000S lets you create up to 400 date folders, with up to 400 projects in each date folder. It's also easy to perform file management tasks such as renaming, deleting, or protecting individual projects. You can also store up to 100 mark points in each project.

High-quality audio design

By using the highest-quality components available - the CS4398 Digital to Analog Converter from Cirrus Logic and the Burr-Brown PCM4202 Analog to Digital Converter from Texas Instruments Corporation - the MR2000S minimizes any possible degradation of the audio signal.

The ideal connectors for the professional workplace

The MR-2000S offers the essential connectors for today?s professional workplace. Analog connectors include XLR balanced input/output jacks, and RCA unbalanced input/output jacks. The reference level of the XLR jacks can be switched in a range of -12/-14/-16/-18/-20 dB, allowing the MR-2000S to be used in any recording environment from a music-related studio to a broadcast facility. Digital connectors include S/PDIF coaxial jacks for PCM sources, as well as word clock jacks for synchronization with other devices or a second MR-2000S unit. The MR2000S also features a multi-step LED level meter with excellent response speed and high visibility.

AudioGate version 1.5 file format conversion software is included

Korg's exclusive AudioGate file format conversion software is indispensible for handling the data recorded by the MR series. Korg suggests the "MR style" workflow, in which you keep the 1-bit recorded file as the archival master, and use AudioGate to convert to the most suitable format for each situation or project. The newly updated version 1.5 of AudioGate adds a host of file import additions, newly refined conversion routines, and various other usability and workflow improvements .
[Main contents of the update]

  • Support for reading and writing MR project files
  • You can easily add MR project files to a song list by dragging and dropping them. The two files in the project folder will be automatically combined, and the marks in the project will also be loaded. Songs within AudioGate can also be exported as an MR project file, and even files larger than 4 GB can be automatically divided into 1 GB portions and restored to the MR series recorder.
  • Reading support for an even wider range of file formats
  • Importing of MP3, AAC*1, Apple lossless *1, and WMA (Windows Media Audio)*2 files is now supported. Reading compatibility for AIFF files has also been improved.

*1: Supported if QuickTime 7 is installed.
*2: Windows only

  • Channel Link function has been added
This function links two monaural songs in the song list so that they are handled as a stereo file. You can also assign a monaural file for each channel.
  • Import, export, and edit marks
Marks in MR project files, WAV/BWF files, and DSDIFF files can now be loaded, added, deleted, moved, or used to jump. When you export an MR project or WAV, BWF, or DSDIFF file, all marks will be reproduced, meaning that it will be easy to find a desired point even when playing back a long recording on the MR series recorder.
  • Newly added Quick Locate function lets you use your keyboard to numerically enter the start and stop points.
  • L/R balance can now be adjusted for song playback or conversion export.
  • The display size of the song list can now be changed.
  • Consecutive playback of a song list is now possible.

  • Conversion processing has been optimized, and audio quality, speed, and stability have been improved.
