Mick Hucknall Victim of Death Report Hoax

Former Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall was the victim of an online hoax today (November 10) that falsely reported that he had died.

The website Global Associated News published a prank story reporting that the singer had been killed in a jet-ski accident, causing users of Twitter to speculate whether the singer had passed away.

"Preliminary reports from Turks and Caicos Police officials indicate that the musician struck a concrete boat slip in a marina on Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos Islands," said the original story. "Mick Hucknall was the only passenger on the personal watercraft at the time of the incident. Specific details are not yet available."

However, Hucknall later proved he was alive and well by posting a light-hearted message on his own Twitter account, writing:

"its officail..i'm dead..wow its lovely down here..nice and warm, gr8 parties..lots of rock n roll.."

In the past, Global Associated News have published reports that several celebrities have passed away, including Jeff Goldblum, Adam Sandler and Will Smith's son Jaden Smith.

In 2007, Hucknall declared that Simply Red had decided to split up. They released their final album, 'Stay', that year, while the singer went on to release his first solo LP 'Tribute To Bobby' in 2008.
