Nord started out making digital drum kits in the 1980's branded ddrum. The company changed direction in the mid 90's with the launch of the Nord Lead synthesiser. The Nord Lead moved on but kept it's defining character with a rough analogue sound and control panel with large amounts of knobs, faders and rotary encoders.

In the late 90's Nord moved towards performance keyboards encompassing vintage sounds from Rhodes, Clavinet and Mellotron, plus realistic piano sounds. Nord now grace every stage in the world with their trademark "red" stage pianos and synths due to their unrivalled sounds and indestructible build.
