Nord has become the leading stage piano on the gigging scene today. Many put this down to the love, care and attention that the Swedish maestros have put into their machines. The actions are tested, calibrated and pushed to the limit before they leave the factory. The samples are constantly improved and rereleased at no cost to the user. Userbility live is a dream for both the engineer and the player. But that's just my opinion and my username is Rhodester...
Maybe it is because they sound like the instruments they are supposed to be emulating??? A simple thing you would think, but Nord seem to magically be able to sound 'raw' and real. How can it be that hard?
I used to have an Electro 2 and never found the piano sounds that good. Mainly because thre was no release but they have added "long release" and "string resonance" now on the new models and its a great improvement - also think if I get one again Ill get the 4D - been waiting for real drawbars!
Even Hammond don't have automation with drawbars, is it that important? But having said that it would give them a leg up in the competition, bet it would cost an arm and a leg! They always to a hybrid with the lights down the side of the bars like the old digital mixers with the fader triggering he light when it passed the last preset point. Mmmm? Do you think that those lovely Swedish people will give me a job and pay me in gear? :-)
Well it seems there is plenty out from Nord to keep you 'players' happy... I just wish they still focused on synthesis too like they did originally. The Lead 3 was one of my favourite synths of all time and the modular stuff they did (Micro Modular + G2) was mind blowingly good. Come on Nord, give us another modular monster or at least a fixed architecture synth that is as good if not better than the Lead 3!
