Arturia Wurlitzer-V

May 4th, 2012

The legendary Wurlitzer EP 200A was the high end model of the Wulitzer reed-based piano line. It was introduced in 1972 and produced until 1982. Its sound was a little brighter than the Fender Rhodes when played softly and became more overdriven as the attack was more pronounced. This unique dynamic range, mainly due to tighter reeds, was very appreciated by funk players who could express their nuances and rhythmic playing. The Wurlitzer quickly reached immense succes among pop and rock bands, where its thicker and rougher tone easily fit in the mix.

Favored by Supertramp (“The Logical Song”), the Beatles (“I am the Walrus”), Ray Charles (“What’d I say”), Marvin Gaye (“I Heard It Throught The Grapevine”), the Rolling Stones (“Miss You”), the Wurlitzer 200A was also reputed to make a great combination with tube amps, such as the Fender Bassman and Twin Reverb, because their nice overdrive and spring reverb contributed to opening the sound even more. The 200A also accepted different effect units very well, such as analog chorus, phaser, tape echo, which were nice tricks to bring additional lushness and depth to the sound.

Roland’s Jupiter Synthesiser’s Reborn

April 4th, 2012

Roland has existed in different forms since the 1960′s but really gained a name in the late 1970′s and early 1980′s as one of the world’s top music companies. Known for hundreds of popular synthesisers, drum machines and other instruments, Roland continues to be one of the most revered names in the music business and set the standard for all to follow. Into 2012 Roland continues it’s synthesis innovation and receives universal praise from professionals around the world for it’s extraordinary and expressive sounds along with groundbreaking technology.

The new generation Roland Jupiter Synthesiser’s have changed the way we feel, play and react to a keyboard. It’s been a year since Roland launched the Jupiter-80 at Musikmesse International Festival and this year it won the prestigious, “Musikmesse International Press Award” for Synthesizer Hardware and Electronic Percussion. By combining the legendary vibe of the Jupiter-8 with the realism of Roland’s SuperNATURAL synthesis engine the Jupiter-80 has a deep, rich analog sound that produce organic realism when emulating acoustic instruments. The Jupiter-80 will not disappoint analog synthesiser fans. It has three separately programmable sound chains each with it’s own oscillator, filter, LFO and amplifier. As well as this up to nine sound chains can be combined with twenty seven oscillators at once. Each oscillator is able to utilise one of seven vintage waveforms or one of over three hundred and fifty PCM waveforms meaning unlimited sound shaping possibilities. With hundreds of presets and a powerful arpeggiator the Jupiter-80 is a cutting-edge synth with remarkable playability both in the studio and live on stage.

The Jupiter-80 also has a lighter, more portable brother in the shape of the Jupiter-50 with a 76-note weighted keyboard. With over 1,500 SuperNATURAL synthesizer tones and 70 SuperNATURAL acoustic instruments you’ll always find the sounds you need with the Jupiter-50. This keyboard’s state-of-the-art technology, well-organised user interface and colour-coded front panel means it’s sounds are simple to find, create and save in the heat of music making. It boasts an advanced effects engine that takes your sounds into another dimension. There are five types of pro-grade reverb algorithms onboard plus dozens of other special effects. You can select from five MFX structures that let you place up to four effects in parallel serial paths. Using these structures allows you to take full advantage of a powerful collection of effects to create intense electro-synth sounds and intricate ambient textures. In addition there is a USB thumb drive port that lets you play along with WAV, AIFF, or MP3 file backing tracks. Overall the Jupiter-50 is ideal for live performers, synth lovers and film composers alike.

Over the years Roland’s synthesiser’s have played a massive part in the trademark sounds of artists like Gary Numan and Stevie Wonder along with bands such as Duran Duran, Erasure and many more. Now the Jupiter-80 and Jupiter-50 continue the legacy of Roland in a format that suits modern demands of performance and play into 2012 and beyond.
